  Rehoming

Release of animals and private accommodation

The Directive 2010/63 of the EU Article 19 regulates the private accommodation of laboratory animals. This directive has been implemented by the member states of the European Union in their national legislation.

§10, of the TVG ( Austrian Animal Testing Law) deals with the accommodation of former laboratory animals in Austria.

The conditions for private accommodation include an unobjectionable state of health and that appropriate measures are taken to ensure the welfare of the animals. Breeders, suppliers and users whose animals are to be rehomed must have a program in place to ensure the socialization of the animals to be privately housed.

However, this is a very time consuming task.

The RepRefRed Society and the Austrian 3R Center are now working together with Mrs. Ing Astrid Fabry, an employee of the Medical University of Vienna to create an Austria-wide platform for rehoming.
