pHPL Supply for Animal Free Cell Culture

hPL-project

Animal-free culture models are more and more in demand, not only for translational research and for the future clinical application of cell culture products. Consequently, human platelet lysate is increasingly replacing the previously used fetal bovine serum (FBS) in various research fields1, especially for mesenchymal stroma cell expansion and in other areas of cell therapy and regenerative medicine.

The Department of Blood Group Serology & Transfusion Medicine is offering pooled human platelet lysate (pHPL) for research only, manufactured from fresh platelet concentrates in ISO 9001:2015 certified laboratories. The “O platelet in AB plasma” human platelet lysate is highly standardized and aliquots are delivered with an extensive quality certificate. The common aliquot sizes are 50 ml and 100 ml (minimum purchase 500 ml). The dispatch takes place on dry ice by courier service.

The main goal of this cooperation between RepRefRed Society and MUG/UBT is to set up a library of cell culture protocols with pHPL instead of FBS for a variety of cell types to gain encompassing knowledge about feasibility of complete replacement of FBS by pHPL.
